The Fred Vargas books featuring Adamsberg just get better and better. The storylines are always surprising and the plot can go off in any direction, which always leaves me with the sensation of seeing or hearing French Impressionist paintings/music. Which is as odd a way of describing a crime novel as the book is itself. Wonderful.
