Well written, funny, nicely observed and slightly off-beat love story between two very unlikely people. Enjoyed it a lot.

Slumdog Millionaire by Vikas Swarup

The cover is somewhat misleading (as is some of the blurb on the back) - you get the impression of a happy, sometimes poignant but ultimately feel-good book. It's really a succession of rather grim short stories and a rather predictable outcome.

Nemesis by Jo Nesbo

A Nordic crime book with surprising elements of humour. I can't decide if this was better than "Redbreast" which I read last year and thought was brilliant.

Resistance by Owen Sheers

A difficult book to get into, but absolutely loved it. Beautifully written, with a story and characters that stayed with me long after finishing reading it.
